In 2002, Collingwood College applied for and achieved membership of the Council of Internationally Accredited Schools, one of only a handful of government schools to do so in Australia.
This membership was reaffirmed in July 2007 after the College completed its 5 year review when the visiting team from CIAS (Australia) noted that:
"Members of the Committee were pleased to note the school's very positive responses to the recommendations made in the Visiting Team Report of March 2002. The recent Visitors' Report highlighted the following:
- A vibrant and diverse student community
- A positive learning environment in which staff and students demonstrated genuine care and respect for each other
- A College that knows its students and families and works hard to meet their needs
- A highly supportive parent group and wider community
- A committed, energetic and professional leadership team, capably led by the principal
- A staff that is passionate about wanting the best for students."
International Accreditation is available to schools in Australia through a partnership between the Council of International Schools and the Council of Internationally Accredited Schools (Australia).
The Council of International Schools is an international school membership organisation which provides services to support professional development, curriculum and instruction, leadership and good governance in international schools located in Europe and around the world.
CIS schools are committed to the promotion of an international outlook amongst all members of their communities. Their staff and students are characterized by knowledge of, and respect for, the beliefs and values of their own and other cultures and by the willingness to acknowledge the existence and necessity of a range of perspectives.
CIS members and affiliate members serve and support member schools through an ongoing process of professional renewal characterized and facilitated by networking, research, sharing and collegiality.
