Collingwood College is now offering some exciting new study opportunities for senior students.

The College has introduced the Certificate of Design in Industry, and course and VCE subject options have been broadened through a partnership with Fitzroy High School, giving students access to a greater range of VCE subjects.

Further choice is available through the Inner Melbourne VET cluster (IMVC), the Council of Adult Education (CAE), and Distance Education.

Student learning is supported through Personal Learning sessions, and a Tutorial program, which is ongoing. Extra senior staffing resources have been allocated to the Senior Leadership team to support the implementation of the Design School vision.

Year 11 program in 2009 New flyer

In preparation for VCE, current students have been encouraged to select a course of study largely within one of three broad programs Arts/Humanities, Sciences or Creative Arts taking into consideration tertiary or employment links and their future pathways. An integrated study of VCE Literature and Theatre Studies is also available as an inspiring study suitable to all students.

Students have the opportunity to complete a Major Project, a year-long study based on each student’s individual area of interest. While not a formal VCE unit, this project will be accredited through the student’s VCE units studied. It will be supported by mentors, industry and tertiary partnerships, under the guidance of senior school staff.

Design Precinct planned for campus

Well-known artist, Helen Maudsley, launches the 2007 College Art Show
and new Foyer Gallery which will form part of the Design Precinct.

Plans for the development of a Senior Design Precinct at the Collingwood campus are currently underway, and an architect has been secured to develop the school’s building master plan appropriately.

The plan is to incorporate the existing original red brick wing of the school into suitable learning spaces, due to its proximity to the school’s new Art Gallery, and the existing Theatre, Dance Studios and Music Studios.

Plans are also underway to include individual studio spaces for senior students within the Senior Design Precinct.

There is the possibility of increasing the VET program in the future to include certificates in Music Production, Fashion and Multi-Media.

"Everywhere you look today -- from buildings and landscapes, to commercial products and public services, to Web sites and print products -- design has taken on new meaning. Design isn't just about decoration; it's a critical component of how we communicate, collaborate, and compete. But behind the "look and feel" of any good design are a host of carefully conceived principles: fundamental propositions that define the essence of the design. The trick ... is to learn those underlying rules -- to think like designers."
