Since its conception nearly 30 years ago The Island has endeavoured to provide young people with an alternative to mainstream education.
Many of these young people have had negative school experiences and The Island aims to give relevant & appropriate training enabling the students to present themselves as positively as possible to prospective employers. And in this way many employers recognise The Island as a good source of well skilled young people who want to work. The Island is staffed by tradesmen and women who bring a thorough knowledge and training in their respective fields to the workshops they run and the students who participate. Our aim with these various workshops is to give students a taste of work in the real world. And for them to develop their talents in a friendly & supportive environment. Due to the student's keen, enthusiastic demeanor, we are supported by organisations like Incolink, GM Holden, & Flashprint, who see a high level of potential in our students. This makes The Island ’s record of success in placing students currently more than 95%, with most students following on into paid employment. Some students even choose to go back to school to complete their secondary education whilst others move into suitable TAFE courses. Workready students are also assisted into apprenticeships or other suitable employment. From all the positive feedback, we can honestly say "The Island works!" |
