Spring Fair – last minute jobs…

Hello everyone,
I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who came along on Saturday we had a great day sorting cups and napkins for food stalls, making cake bags and signs/banners, moving the chooks and generally getting excited about the Fair. The smell from the kitchen was divine!
I’ve had a rather busy two weeks personally and now I find I have a couple of last minute and maybe even desperate calls for help. Please look at the list of things to do and get in touch if you can spare an hour or two on Sunday. Just FOUR more sleeps!
ODD SOCKS!
  • The grade ones are offering puppet making in the children’s garden. While I think I may have enough odd socks around to supply the stall for a number of years, you never know. Please bring your odd socks to the office, canteen of Reggio 1/2 room (Julie & Sormeh) anytime before pick up Friday.
CAKE BAKING:
  • Cake Bags: Cake bags are available from outside classrooms, the office and After Care. Please only take one if you are going to make a cake! Cakes can be returned to the Parents Association kitchen on Friday and Saturday. The instructions have been translated into Turkish, Arabic, Vietnamese and Mandarin so that as many people who are willing and able to bake have the right information. The cakes are sold on the cake stall but are also used on the Chai stall, Devonshire Tea and in the Children’s Cafe so anything from special pastries to mini muffins are most welcome.
  • Cake Baking Day: The year 7’s are baking this Friday from 9am. If you have a couple of hours to spare, please come along to help. Recipes are provided – unless you have something special you’d like to make!)
FETE COLLECTIVE – EQUIPMENT COLLECTION
  • At this time of year we share our equipment with other schools in the area. Ben, a parent from R2 has very generously offered to help collect the 70 trestles, 30 cafe tables, 120 chairs, 22 umbrellas, 16 small marquees, the Bain Marie and the Jaffa Smasher on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon this week. If you are picking your children up from After Care this week – or if you like hanging out at the school until about 6pm and see people lugging these things ‘d please lend us a hand. There are 3 seats in the truck so if you are available to help from 3pm we would love to hear from you. Please call Tina on 0438 176 635.
SATURDAY WORKING BEE – 9am to 4pm
  • Marquee Set Up – We need TEN people to come along on Saturday to help set up the marquee. We start at 9am.
  • Stalls – Every stall needs to be set up on Saturday, equipment
  • Security – Thanks to the Miller family who have offered to stay over on Saturday night. We need another family to sleep over and keep the pizza oven fire burning. If you’re in for a sleep over, please call me on 0438 176 635.
  • Icing cakes – In the kitchen next to Desley’s kitchen the year 7s will be icing cakes, making labels and bagging up treats of biscuits, cakes and sweets.
  • BBQ lunch will be provided but plates of cake or salad are very welcome.
  • IMPORTANT NOTICE: The Stephanie Alexander Foundation is runnig a workshop in Desley’s kitchen this Saturday. We ask you to please be as quiet as possible while in the Parents Association kitchen and corridors. Please do not enter the kitchen while the workshop is taking place.
HELP NEEDED ON SUNDAY – ROSTERS IN THE CANTEEN:
  • Sausage Sizzle: We need staff, students and parents to fill 5 spots on the roster all day.
  • Face Painting: we have a parent who has very generously donated her time and her tipi for face painting and I have one other parent who is going to help. We are asking senior school students to try their hand at face painting. If you are a parent of a senior school student could you please ask your child if they would be willing to help – parents and grandparents are welcome too!
  • Fairy Floss: Every year senior school students help make the fairy floss. Last year some year eleven boys did a wonderful job. Again if you are a parent of a senior school student could you please ask your child if they would be willing to help – parents and grandparents are welcome too!
  • Ticket Sellers – BOOTH 1: My dad is bringing a trailer load of fire wood to raffle on Sunday ($5 a ticket! delivered that afternoon to the lucky winner) and he’s happy to sit and  sell tickets all day. He will need some help so when you see him, please stop by for 15 minutes or an hour to give him a break – or bring him a cup of tea, he takes it black with one sugar! Or a cappuccino also with one sugar….
  • Ticket Sellers – BOOTH 2: We have another ticket stall near the second hand clothes at the Cromwell St entrance. Alina form the library has her name on the roster for the first two ours but we need people there to sell rafffle tickets until 3pm. Rosters are in the canteen.
  • Children’s Cafe: The Cafe sells simple food and drinks for pre-school children and those who prefer a vegemite sandwich to anything fancy. We’re asking staff and parents to help out in the Children’s Cafe, it’s a lovely quiet space surrounded by children digging, creating and playing.
  • Kitchen Garden Produce Stall: Desley and her students have been very busy making cordial, jellies, chutney and marmalade for sale at the Fair. The stall is in between the cakes and the Made with Love Craft stall on the oval so if you could spend and hour or two this Sunday selling produce from our garden you will have some very lovely company.
  • Bar Staff: This may be considered the best seat in the house. Located in the big marquee you will be in pole position to see all of the orchestras and singing. We need two people per hour.
  • Barristers: If you can make a decent coffee, then we need you! Please consider putting your name down to make coffees in Errol’s kitchen.
  • Dish Washers: It’s not glamorous but if serving customers isn’t your thing then you may want to consider helping to wash dishes for a while in the canteen and Parents Association Kitchen. Keeping on top of the dishes is really important to keeping our Fair plastic free!
  • Equipment: Please remember that the stalls need to be packed up at the end of the day. The equipment such as trestles, tables and chairs all need to be packed into a shipping container. The container goes off t Spensley Street for their fete next week. I know everyone will be extremely tired but please consider sticking around for an hour to help.
I have to confess to being mildly concerned after writing this list of how much help we need at such short notice. I am putting faith in the fact that we’re asking for only a couple of hours from every family and it’s all for a good cause, so please make the trip to the canteen to put your name down, then come along and have fun on the day.
I’ve attached a copy of the program. All but one item is confirmed. Please find an hour or two to help out. If you can’t make it into the canteen, please call me or SMS.
Thank you and kind regards,
Tina x
