Music 2013 (repeat)

Dear Parents & Carers

We have completed staffing arrangements for the instrumental program for 2013 at Collingwood College.

Instrumental Music

Woodwind & Keyboard: Lyndal McLean (Wednesday morning)

Voice & Keyboard: Chris Doquile (Thursdays)

Drums: Travis Marke (Thursdays)

Guitar: Christian O’Brien (Tuesdays & Wednesdays)

We farewell Janet Provan who has taught voice and keyboard this year at Collingwood College. We wish her all the best in 2013. We thank her for her work at the school. Those who attended the music concert in November will remember the beautiful choral performance lead by Janet. Thank you Janet for working hard to engage your students.

Instrumental Strings

We welcome Kim Ho to the instrumental staff teaching violin / viola. Kim will be working on Thursdays and Fridays.

Violin / Viola: Jenny Occleshaw (5 days pw)

Cello: Christine Vincent (4 days pw – not Tuesdays)

Cello: Vincent Ward (Thursdays and Fridays)

We farewell Christine Marnane who has taught violin and viola at Collingwood College for 4 years. In 2012 Christine conducted the Senior Strings Orchestra. She lead the orchestra on their trip to South Australia and also conducted at numerous performances this year. Thank you Christine for your encouragement of the students in your care.

We also farewell Jules Cseszko who joined the staff in 2011 and has taught violin, viola, lead a class orchestra and with Adam Piechocinski has lead a string quartet this term. Those of you who attended the Strings Christmas concert would have been very moved by the music they made. Thank you Jules for your rapport with your students.

Adam Piechocinski joined Collingwood College midway through 2012 and has taught cello to a year 8 student and to all the cello students in Bernice’s class and lead their class orchestra. Thank you Adam for stepping into the program mid-year and supporting the students in so many ways. We wish you well in the future.

There are still many outstanding enrolments in the compulsory Steiner strings program (about 35% on enrolments have been received). Enrolments were due on Friday, 30 November (last year).

The staffing costs for the instrumental program amount to around ¼ million dollars so we need prompt payment to allow the program to run.

Thank you to all the parents who supported the music program last year. Your assistance took many and varied forms: through positive and constructive feedback, attendance at performances, reminding children to practise, remember instruments and music books for lessons and in many other ways. I look forward to your continued support in 2013.

Wishing you a warm welcome into the new year.
