Border Music Camp Early Bird Registrations Now Open

The 39th annual Border Music Camp will be held in Albury from 30 June to 6 July. It is a week-long intensive Music camp, where campers can “live-in” and work towards two concert performances in an ensemble that suits their skill level .

All instruments customarily played in orchestras and symphonic wind ensembles are needed – there’s a detailed list on the website. Musicians who play guitar, recorder, piano or harp  are welcome to apply to attend, and be involved playing percussion.

The Camp is not just for school-age students, with many adults also attending. Nor, for that matter, is it only for locals. Students regularly attend from Melbourne, Sydney and regional centres; we have had Campers from as far away as Hobart, Perth, Alice Springs and Darwin.

Several Collingwood students have attended Border over the years, and the school will be represented by at least two musicians again in 2013. If you’d like a parent’s assessment of the worth of the camp, please contact Amanda at

Most powerfully, like all good music camps, we provide the ‘immersion factor’. The ideal way to learn a foreign language is to live in a country where it is spoken. Camp is a musical version of the same thing. It is a community whose focus is music, where the distractions and fragmented rehearsals inevitable in a week-by-week school music program just don’t exist. This can be irresistibly exciting. And although most students play purely for recreation, Border has been a powerful inspiration for many alumni now making a living from music, including many current and past staff members.
