 Dear Parent,

Each year Bicycle Victoria supports a “National Ride2School Day”.  The event raises cycling awareness among parents and students and encourages riding bicycles, especially to and from school.

Again this year Collingwood College have decided to run the event in a different way.  That is, to have the event on the last day of Term One – March 28.  Students will be invited to register for the day and have their bikes at school.  The event will start at 12:40pm and take place partly after school (N.B. school finishes 2:30pm due to the end of term).

Following a short lunch, students who register (see form below), we depart on a short, supervised cycling expedition.  The planned route (depending on numbers) is likely to be via the pedestrian overpass over Hoddle Street, then back streets to the Main Yarra Trail – MYT – (at Gipps St).  Then either down the stairs to Dights Falls (short & flat) or over the bridge and loop around Fairfield Park (long, hilly, tracks).  Both routes return along the MYT to the Abbotsford Convent for refreshments at approx 3.00 p.m. (normal school finish time).  If registered, students can either be collected by parents, or  dismissed to ride home. We hope this offers parents a suitable alternative for care of their child on this shortened day.

This event is designed with middle Primary age students in mind, but is open to all.  If students are too young to ride on their own, then parents are most welcome to participate.  Supervision will be by teachers and voluntary parents, (depending on numbers) including a driver to transport school bags as needed.

If your child is interested, please fill in the form and return to Frank Stanley.
