Tournament of Minds 2013

This years Tournament of Minds will start day 1 term 3 so we will be working out teams in the coming weeks.  Teams of 7 students from grades 5  and 6 (primary section) and 7/8/9/10 (high school section) work together to solve a long term challenge.  Each team works on their presentation using a variety of presentation skills such as puppetry, technology, costumes, humour, mime etc.  There are four categories that the challenge is taken from; literature, social sciences, maths and engineering or technology.  Teams choose a challenge and then have to find a creative solution or answer to the challenge.  As well, on the day of the presentation (a Saturday), teams are given a short term challenge to solve which really tests their team work and ability to think on their feet.  Last year was the first time Collingwood College entered and our two teams did a great job.

All types of skills are needed in a team – creativity, commitment, organisation, secretarial skills, writing, maths, problem solving, time keeping, hard workers, etc etc so there is something for everyone to contribute.   Have a chat to your child/ren if you think they might be interested.  I’ll be letting them know in the coming weeks what they need to do to be part of a team . .
