3-6 Family Maths Night

The senior Primary Maths Night was held on the 31st July.  After some delicious soup in the staff room, all the families moved to the library to enjoy some fun and interesting brain teasers and maths games which tested the the children’s thinking and perspectives.  There were many different areas of maths covered,  including addition, subtractions, multiplication and division.

Children were tested on their ability to guestimate the number of lollies in the jar and the weight of a pumpkin.  Families put their names down on Venn diagrams (only one family has a dog, a cat and another type of pet!)  and each student had contributed to our ‘smartie’ maths – which involved counting how many smarties were in a packet (small!) and which colours they were.  Most smartie packets had 14 smarties in them (one had 11 and one had 16!!)  The most common coloured smartie was green (on 102), pink came second on 82 and third was yellow on 71.  Brown was the least common on 47!

Over all, the Maths Night was a success and it looks like a tradition has been started.
