This year, The Brotherhood of St Laurence celebrates 10 years of empowering Australians to save through Saver Plus, the largest and longest running financial education and matched savings program of its type in the world.

An initiative of ANZ and the Brotherhood of St Laurence, Saver Plus was first piloted in 2003 and has since supported more than 20,000 people to save. The program is now delivered in over 60 communities across Australia.

Saver Plus is designed to encourage lower income earners to develop a savings habit. Participants make regular deposits towards a savings goal over a ten month period and attend workshops to build their financial management skills. When they reach their savings goal, ANZ matches the amount up to $500.

Over the past 10 years, Saver Plus participants have saved more than $13.5 million with ANZ matching more than $9 million for education expenses.

For families on lower incomes, the benefits of saving even small amounts include protection from financial shocks, building confidence in managing money and dealing with financial challenges.

Saver Plus is an initiative of the Brotherhood of St Laurence and ANZ, delivered in partnership with Berry Street, The Benevolent Society, The Smith Family and other local community agencies. The program is funded by ANZ and the Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, with ANZ providing matched savings for participants.
