Jack Johnson visits Kitchen-Garden

Our students and staff were very excited today to have a visit from Jack Johnson, his wife Kym and 3 children.

Jack Johnson is an American folk, rock singer, musician, filmmaker, surfer who supports environmental, food and sustainable initiatives worldwide with the – Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation.

Founded by Jack and Kim Johnson to support environmental, art and music education now and into the future. The Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation continues to support many All At Once non-profit partners.

This Foundation supports The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation by donating money from his concerts in Australia.

Jack, Kym and family toured our K.G program as their foundation has helped establish 8 K.G style schools in Hawaii. They were extremely interested and amazed at the breadth and beauty of our school grounds and the creativity of our students and community. They are hoping to extend their programs with a cooking component similar to ours.

Our wonderful “Compost Ninjas” sang their now famous song “Scraps, Straw and Poo!”to Jack and family. Jack returned the gift by borrowing Katherine’s guitar and singing with our students his world wide hit “The 3 R’s song”

The 3 R’s song by Jack Johnson

Three thats the magic number
yes it is, its a magic number
Two times three is six
and three times six is eighteen
and the eighteenth letter in the alphabet is R
There’s three Rs we’re going to be talking about todayYou gotta learn to Reduce Reuse Recycle
Reduce Reuse Recycle
Reduce Reuse Recycle
Reduce Reuse Recycle

If you’re going to the market to buy some juice
bring your own bags and you’ll learn to reduce your waste
Gotta reduce your waste

And if your brother or your sisters got some cool clothes
try them on before you buy some of those
you gotta learn to reuse

And if the first two Rs dont work out
and you gotta make some trash, dont throw it out
You gotta learn to recycle

You gotta learn to Reduce Reuse Recycle
Reduce Reuse Recycle
Reduce Reuse Recycle
Reduce Reuse Recycle

’cause three, thats the magic number
yes it is, its a magic number
