Canteen News – May

Hi All

Welcome to Term 2 and cooler weather.  Soup will replace salad and while fresh fruit salad will still be available at morning tea and lunchtime for $2, we will be making hot fruit crumble at lunchtime for $3.

Canteen is open from 8am to 2pm for breakfast, morning tea and lunch.  Our aim is to provide students and staff with fresh, nourishing food at reasonable prices.  A variety of seasonal fruit and vegetables are included in our meals and the meat we use is certified Halal.  Cold drinks are not available at Canteen as water fountains are located throughout the school grounds.  Choice organic waste is distributed to the lovely chooks; the rest is put into the Kitchen Garden compost along with coffee grounds and tea.

Breakfast is served from 8am.  Toasted cheese sandwiches, toast with jam or Vegemite, porridge, muesli, WeetBix are available for $1 each. Toasted cheese & tomato sandwiches are $1.50 and muesli or WeetBix with Jalna vanilla yoghurt is $1.50.  Tea, coffee and hot chocolate are available for $3 (small hot chocolates are available for $2).  Soy milk is available for an additional 50 cents.  Please note, caffeinated drinks are only available to students studying VCE, staff and parents.

At Morning Tea time, toasted cheese sandwiches and Anzac biscuits are available for $1 each.  Toasted cheese & tomato sandwiches are $1.50 each.  Fruit salad cups and muffins are $2 each and savory scones (not available on Mondays) are $2.50 each.

At Lunchtime, meals are served in small bowls (360 ml) for $4, medium bowls (500 ml) for $5 and large bowls (650 ml) for $6.  Filled bread rolls are available on Wednesdays for $5.50.  Please note, chicken is an optional extra at $1 (not available on Mondays).  Toasted sandwiches, fruit salad cups, Anzac biscuits and muffins are also available at lunchtimes.

The theme for each day and menu examples are as follows:

Meat-free Monday – Pasta Napoli, Mixed Vegetables with Egg Noodles OR Ginger Rice, Pumpkin soup

Pasta & Noodle Tuesday – Pasta Bolognese, Singapore Noodles, Mac’N’Cheese, Minestrone soup

Rice & Rolls Wednesday – Vegetable Fried Rice, Vegetable Rice Noodles, Chicken Schintzel & Salad Roll, Haloumi Cheese & Salad Roll, Pumpkin soup

Rice & Pasta Thursday – Pasta Bolognese, Vegetable Fried Rice, Pasta with roast pumpkin, spinach & feta, Stone (Vegetable) soup

Favourites on Friday – Pasta Bolognese, Vegetable Fried Rice, Singapore Noodles, Vegetable & Lentil soup

Please note, hot meals and fruit salad are provided in bowls made from sugarcane waste, disposable forks are made of bamboo, and paper cups are used for takeaway coffee.  We have chosen packaging that is sustainable and is likely to leave the smallest footprint.  We are happy to serve meals in students’ own clean containers if provided (please ensure the container is named if used for lunch orders).
