Financial Management Workshop – Years 9&10

“Money Makes the World Go ‘Round”, or so says the rap played to our year 9 and 10 students on Monday and Tuesday this week when we held a special workshop on how to use and spend money.

Titled Money Savvy this full day workshop assisted students in the following areas:

• The traps of youth debt

• The difference between needs and wants

• Budgeting for life

• Scams and their impact on young people

• Understanding the fine print of contracts

• Savings and the benefits of compound interest

• The value of superannuation

The day was facilitated by trained YWCA staff (from SA) and supported by HSBC corporate mentors, who came from a range of career paths, to share their professional experience with the students. The workshop will be followed up in Humanities classes and, where possible in running lessons.
