Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare Play – Class 8C

Class 8C’s modern interpretation of Romeo and Juliet was inspired by Shakespeare’s traditional use of limited sets and costumes.  The students worked hard as a class to develop the ‘sets’, making each scene’s architecture out of their own bodies and gestures.  The roles of Romeo, Juliet, the Nurse, and the Friar were shared around by different actors; simple roses or sashes were used to help the audience follow the story.  The Montagues (blue) and the Capulets (red) fought wildly, using choreography carefully developed with help from Alexsey, our very own fencing coach.

Performances of this contemporary play were performed at Thornbury Primary School, Briar Hill Primary School, Castlemaine Steiner School, and our own Collingwood College Theatre.
