KITCHEN GARDEN PROGRAM IN 2015

2015 marks an exciting change in the delivery of the Kitchen Garden program at Collingwood College.

Students in our year three and four classes will continue to have cooking for the whole year. They will have Desley and their class teacher for a weekly 1.5 hour cooking lesson, and will have a one hour garden lesson with Ben. This an increase of the garden time.

Due to the crowded curriculum in our upper primary school, students in years five and six will have cooking and garden for one semester only. These students will have a one hour garden session with Ben and a two hour cooking session with their class teacher. This will allow the class teacher to make strong links between the cooking and the classroom curriculum. The longer amount of time spent at both sessions will allow for deeper reflection and analysis of their cooking and gardening time.

These longer periods have been made possible due to the alteration of the primary school timetable in 2015. Each primary school day will have 5 periods of 1 hour each. (We currently have 6 periods of 45 mins each).

Class teachers will receive training from the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation to assist with this change. We will still require volunteers for these sessions and we are very keen for family members of these students to become involved. If you are interested in taking part in 5/6 cooking or garden sessions, please let a year 5/6 class teacher know.
