Collingwood Allstars – Important Meeting THIS WEDNESDAY

We need your help THIS Wednesday!
Collingwood All Stars needs your help to convince the Yarra Council that a new stadium at Collingwood College is a priority project  for funding in the 2015/16 City of Yarra Budget. The Councillors are meeting this Wednesday 20th May at Fitzroy Town Hall at 6pm. We are planning  a friendly show of support outside this meeting. Wear your Collingwood uniform or black and white attire and bring a basketball to bounce. We will have placards with messages highlighting how our Association helps Yarra Council meet its strategic goals. We want the dull thud of basketballs to ring in the Councillors ears before they deliberate on Council priorities for the next financial year. And we want as many as possible to come into the meeting at 6.30pm to support our representative, who will be speaking to our budget submission.

Date and Time: Wednesday 20th May at 6pm
Venue: Fitzroy Town Hall, 201 Napier St, Fitzroy

Why we need to do this now!
We are focussing on getting a commitment from Yarra Council for an indoor stadium at Collingwood College. After numerous positive exchanges with individual Councillors, who verbally advised that the rationale for an indoor stadium is firmly established at Council, we were surprised to discover that there is no funding towards an Indoor Sporting Facility included in the draft 2015/16 Yarra Budget.  We also understand there are no plans to start building an Indoor Sporting Facility until year seven in the Council’s ten year Strategic Plan, meaning that 2022 would be the earliest that work could commence on this much needed community facility! We can’t wait this long!

A call-out to Yarra residents

If you live in the City of Yarra we also ask you to send a message or call your local Councillor before Wednesday 20 May. Simply ask why the Council has not included any funding towards an Indoor Sports Facility in the draft 2015/16 draft budget. We request that you keep your message brief and positive, focusing on the benefits of the project to both the local community and your family specifically. All Yarra Councillors are aware of the project. They have been briefed by one of our Committee Representatives and have been provided with a business case for a stadium at Collingwood College.  Please also tell us if you contact your Councillor.  Either BCC  or drop us a line to say you have made a call.

Councillor details can be found here:

Thank you for your support!
