Second hand books

schools-books-logo-centre

The college is conscious of the need to provide an efficient process for families to be able to buy and sell their second-hand textbooks and other student resources.

I am delighted to inform you of the school’s new initiative to provide parents with the ability to trade these second-hand items via the Sustainable School Shop website. www.sustainableschoolshop.com.au

Results from other schools have been excellent – families have enjoyed a very comprehensive and convenient method of buying and selling second-hand items.

The new service is very accessible, it preferences our school first and then provides access to buy and sell items with families attending other schools – many schools use this service. Access to second-hand textbooks, calculators, stationery, musical equipment, etc is available all year.

For the best results:

  • Register on the Sustainable School Shop website
  • List your items for sale
  • List wanted ads for those items you are looking to buy
  • The college’s booklists are loaded into the system to make listing ads easy
  • The system matches the ads of buyers with sellers and notifies the buyer via email
  • Buyers contact sellers and arrange where and when to trade
  • Most trading will occur with other parents from the school
  • Parents are well supported via Sustainable School Shop’s telephone (0438 743 444) and email help lines
  • The system is simple and easy to use – If you don’t have a computer, internet access or an email address, please call the Sustainable School Shop for assistance
  • You can pre-arrange the transaction and then trade after the texts are not required.

Families are offered three levels of access:

  • Search only – registering/logging-in on the Sustainable School Shop, searching all the for sale ads and gaining the sellers’ contact details is free.
  • Single items cost $1.50 to be advertised
  • Subscription – an annual subscription costs $21.95 and is the most anyone will pay. These are taken by families who have many items to advertise.

Senior Secondary Program Partnership Collingwood College and Fitzroy High School

New senior secondary campus construction is underway

We are excited that our senior secondary program partnership – which has been successfully co-delivered by Collingwood College and Fitzroy High School for over 10 years – will run from a contemporary, new, combined campus from term one, 2022.

Construction of the campus is underway at the nearby historic Fitzroy Gasworks site on Queens Parade, Fitzroy North. During the build, the campus is known as ‘Fitzroy Gasworks (Senior Campus) (interim name)’ to reflect its geographic location.

Our new campus will provide a dedicated senior secondary hub for students studying senior secondary programs and teaching staff.

We will continue to offer our senior school partnership model from the new campus – providing students with a choice of VCE, VCAL and VET certificate courses along with a range of innovative senior programs.

Our collaboration allows students to access an extensive range of subjects and a diversity of academic and vocational pathways, which will be further supported by these facilities.

Senior secondary program partnership enrolments

The designated neighbourhood zone (DNZ) for the Fitzroy Gasworks (Senior Campus) (interim name) is the Collingwood College DNZ and the Fitzroy High School DNZ together.

Any student currently attending either of these schools or living in the Collingwood College DNZ or the Fitzroy High School DNZ – will be able to attend our senior secondary program campus.

New campus origins

Creating a new, combined senior secondary campus for our two existing and neighbouring, inner metropolitan schools – builds on our long-standing senior secondary program partnership. The campus will help ease enrolment pressures while also enhancing the learning experience for our students and the teaching environments for our staff.

Facilities

Some of the new facilities will include state-of-the-art general learning spaces, an arts and performance space, a digital design and technology hub, a wood and metalwork hub, and access to a rooftop terrace outdoor court and activity space

2021 Senior Program Guide

Dear students, parents and carers,

Welcome to Collingwood College and Fitzroy High School’s Senior Program Guide. This shared program guide is a symbol of the continued commitment of both schools to provide the best senior school opportunities for our communities. By collaborating in an innovative, responsive, personalised and future-oriented senior school environment, the partnership looks to optimise educational outcomes for all students.

We, therefore, want to provide a range of educational options for all of our students moving into their senior secondary years. This includes both VCE and VCAL certificates. VCE, the main secondary school certificate, focuses on developing students’ academic skills and knowledge to transition to further tertiary study. VCAL is an alternative option and ideally suited to students who thrive in a practical learning environment and has the benefit of flexibility that allows for numerous paths to success. These include going straight into the workforce or further vocational training at TAFE or University following secondary school.

This is a very exciting time for current Year 10 students, in the process of making significant decisions for their senior and final years of secondary school. It is also an important time for current Year 11 students, who have an opportunity to refine their programs for Year 12; the final stage of the secondary school journey.

There are a number of factors to be taken into consideration. Importantly, decisions need to be made with a future-focus. A senior program needs to open up a future, which offers opportunity and flexibility. The course and subject choices will be critical to success, leading to a variety of pathways namely higher education, training or employment.

In the time we have been offering VCE and VCAL, we have established a legacy of student success, demonstrated by consistent academic results and transition to tertiary studies. Through our partnership, as well, with the Inner Melbourne VET Cluster (IMVC), students can access an extensive range of VET certificate courses. Many of our former students have gone on to tertiary studies to specialise in the area they studied in VET. In-house VET subjects are offered at Collingwood which have the advantage of access to their VET teacher beyond the face-to-face class time. This is beneficial in a busy senior school schedule.

The Senior Program Guide 2021 has been produced to support you with the Senior School application process. Please read carefully.

Next year will be full of challenges. We wish you well with your decision-making and planning and look forward to working with all our students and families in 2021.

Year 12 Theatre Studies Production is NOW LIVE!

To the Collingwood College and Fitzroy High School Community,

WE ARE PROUD to announce that the Year 12 Theatre Studies online production of ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’ is now LIVE.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions and Term 2 spent out of the theatre and behind our computer screens, we have had to adapt our performance to fit a flexible online format. We have modified our conventional theatre production to an interpretative cinematic representation of the play, that is featured on our linked website that also includes behind the scene footage and commentary of our production journey.

We have created an online visual and audio experience in an attempt to communicate our original artistic vision and creative interpretation whilst also staying within the guidelines put forward by the adjusted Theatre Studies Study Design. Our visual experience showcases videos and monologues to emulate the audience experience desired for our original stage play. The online production draws inspiration from three main theatre styles. These styles include, ‘Theatre of Cruelty’, ‘German Expressionism’, and ‘Naturalism’.

All footage, sound and music is ORIGINAL and created by students.

We hope that you enjoy the work we’ve put into it our online production during this unprecedented and unusual time in all of our lives.
